If you are considering a private ADHD assessment, cost is understandably one of the first things you may want to know. Unfortunately, comparing prices is not always straightforward. Different providers include different elements within their assessment fee, and a lower headline price may not necessarily represent the total amount you will pay.

In 2026, published prices for private adult ADHD assessments in the UK vary considerably. Research reviewing the published prices of 161 private clinics found a median adult assessment price of £995, with half of published prices falling between £750 and £1,395. The full published range was considerably wider.

Online services tended to cost less. In the same research, clinics operating entirely online had a median published adult assessment price of approximately £680.

These figures provide useful context, but price alone cannot tell you whether an assessment is appropriate, comprehensive or good quality. It is equally important to understand exactly what the fee includes, who will conduct the assessment and what happens afterwards.

Prices and market information in this guide were reviewed in August 2026 and may change.

Why do private ADHD assessment prices vary so much?

There is no single standard price for a private ADHD assessment in the UK.

Several factors can affect what a provider charges, including:

  • whether the assessment is online or face-to-face;
  • the professional background and experience of the clinician;
  • the length and structure of the assessment;
  • questionnaires and other information collected before the appointment;
  • whether information from someone who knows you well is requested;
  • whether a written diagnostic report is included;
  • whether additional appointments are required;
  • whether treatment or medication services are bundled into the pathway; and
  • the provider’s overall service model and operating costs.

The difference between online and face-to-face services can be significant. A 2026 review of UK private ADHD clinics found a median published adult assessment price of approximately £680 among online-only clinics compared with approximately £1,000 among clinics with a physical location.

This does not mean that online assessments are inherently better or worse. The important question is whether the assessment itself is clinically appropriate and sufficiently comprehensive.

What should an adult ADHD assessment include?

A proper ADHD assessment is much more than completing a questionnaire or discussing whether you recognise common ADHD characteristics.

A comprehensive adult assessment should explore your current symptoms, childhood and developmental history, how any difficulties affect different areas of your life, and whether another explanation could better account for your experiences.

The clinician needs to consider the diagnostic criteria for ADHD alongside your wider clinical history and functional impairment.

Depending on the provider and individual circumstances, the process may therefore include:

  • pre-assessment questionnaires;
  • a detailed clinical and developmental history;
  • exploration of ADHD symptoms during childhood and adulthood;
  • consideration of functioning across different areas of life;
  • information from a family member, partner or another person who knows you well, where appropriate;
  • consideration of physical and mental health history;
  • consideration of alternative or co-existing conditions;
  • a structured diagnostic interview;
  • discussion of the clinical outcome; and
  • a written report.

Before comparing two providers purely by price, check which of these elements are actually included. You can also read more about what happens during an adult ADHD assessment.

What additional costs should you check for?

This is one of the most important questions to ask before booking.

Some providers advertise one price for the diagnostic assessment but charge separately for other parts of the pathway.

Depending on the service, additional charges could include:

  • further appointments;
  • treatment consultations;
  • medication titration;
  • private prescription charges;
  • the cost of medication;
  • follow-up reviews;
  • additional letters or reports; or
  • administration associated with ongoing care.

This does not mean that charging separately for these services is inappropriate. Assessment and treatment are different clinical services. What matters is that you understand the distinction before committing to a pathway.

If you are comparing providers, useful questions include:

  • What exactly is included in the assessment fee?
  • Is the written diagnostic report included?
  • Are questionnaires included or charged separately?
  • Will I be charged for another appointment if the clinician needs further information?
  • Does the price include treatment or medication services?
  • Are there additional fees after diagnosis?

Clear answers to these questions make different services much easier to compare.

Online versus face-to-face ADHD assessment costs

Online adult ADHD assessment has become increasingly available in the UK.

A 2026 analysis of published private clinic prices found that online-only clinics had a median adult assessment price of approximately £680, compared with approximately £1,000 for clinics operating from physical premises.

For additional context, NHS England’s 2026/27 payment guidance introduced guide prices of £700 for a virtual adult ADHD assessment and £850 for a face-to-face adult ADHD assessment.

These NHS figures should not be interpreted as prices that private patients should expect to pay. They are non-mandatory guide prices designed to support NHS providers and commissioners when agreeing local payment arrangements. They do, however, provide useful context regarding the different delivery models.

Whether an online assessment is appropriate should ultimately depend on clinical quality and your individual circumstances, rather than price alone. Our own assessments are delivered remotely to adults in England and Northern Ireland.

Does a more expensive ADHD assessment mean a better assessment?

Not necessarily.

Price is not, by itself, a reliable measure of clinical quality.

Rather than assuming that the most expensive provider must offer the most comprehensive service — or that the least expensive provider represents the best value — look at the assessment itself.

You may want to consider:

  • who will conduct your assessment;
  • their professional registration, qualifications and ADHD experience;
  • whether the assessment explores both childhood and current symptoms;
  • whether functional impairment is properly considered;
  • how alternative explanations and co-existing conditions are assessed;
  • whether relevant collateral or informant information is considered;
  • whether you receive a clear explanation of the outcome;
  • whether a comprehensive written report is included;
  • what happens if further information is needed; and
  • what support or onward options are available afterwards.

Transparency is particularly important. You should be able to understand what you are paying for before you book.

How much does an ADHD assessment with Pernovia Health cost?

The fee for a comprehensive online adult ADHD assessment with Pernovia Health is £650.

The service is available to adults aged 18 and over in England and Northern Ireland.

The fee covers the complete assessment pathway, including pre-assessment clinical questionnaires, a comprehensive 2-hour specialist clinical assessment exploring current ADHD symptoms and relevant developmental history, consideration of functional impairment and alternative explanations, and a 15-minute follow-up appointment to discuss your diagnostic outcome, receive your completed report and ask questions about the next steps.

Our model is deliberately assessment-focused. Medication initiation and titration are not bundled into the assessment fee, and there is no requirement to enter an ongoing private treatment programme with us following your assessment.

This means the £650 fee relates to the ADHD assessment pathway itself rather than being the first stage of a required ongoing private treatment package.

Who carries out the assessment?

At Pernovia Health, assessments are undertaken by specialist pharmacists with substantial experience in adult ADHD assessment across both NHS and established private ADHD services.

Our clinicians have experience assessing adults with ADHD across different healthcare settings and have brought that collective clinical experience together within Pernovia Health around a simple principle: a thorough adult ADHD assessment with a clear pathway, transparent pricing and no unnecessary complexity around what patients are paying for.

Clinical governance is also built into the service. Complex or diagnostically uncertain cases can be discussed through our multidisciplinary team process, which includes psychiatrist input. Our psychiatrist participates in MDT meetings to provide additional specialist support when this is clinically appropriate.

This does not mean that every patient will require psychiatrist review, nor does psychiatrist involvement guarantee a particular diagnostic outcome. The purpose of the MDT process is to provide an additional layer of clinical consideration when a case warrants it.

What are you paying for?

We believe it should be clear before you book what your assessment fee covers.

The £650 fee relates to the complete ADHD assessment pathway described above. It is not an introductory consultation fee designed to lead automatically into a compulsory private treatment package.

Whether you choose Pernovia Health or another provider, we recommend looking beyond the headline price and considering the clinicians’ professional background and ADHD experience, the depth of the assessment, what is included in the fee, whether a written report is provided, and what happens if the clinical picture is more complex than expected.

Most importantly, paying for an assessment does not mean paying for a diagnosis. The purpose of the assessment is to reach the most clinically appropriate conclusion based on the evidence available.

Does paying for a private ADHD assessment guarantee a diagnosis?

No.

Paying for an ADHD assessment should never guarantee that you will receive an ADHD diagnosis.

The purpose of an assessment is to establish whether the available clinical evidence supports a diagnosis after considering your symptoms, developmental history, functional impairment and possible alternative explanations.

There are several possible outcomes.

The assessment may support a diagnosis of ADHD. It may conclude that the diagnostic criteria are not met. In some circumstances, the clinician may need further information before reaching a sufficiently robust conclusion.

A responsible assessment service should explain its findings clearly regardless of the outcome.

At Pernovia Health, a comprehensive clinical report is provided following the assessment pathway even where an ADHD diagnosis is not made.

What should I ask before booking a private ADHD assessment?

Before paying for an assessment, it is worth checking:

1. Who will assess me?

Check the clinician’s professional background, registration and relevant ADHD experience.

2. What does the assessment include?

Look beyond the appointment length and establish what information forms part of the complete diagnostic process.

3. Is the report included in the advertised price?

Ask whether you will receive a comprehensive written report and whether there is an additional charge for it.

4. Are there compulsory additional fees?

Establish whether the advertised assessment price is genuinely the total assessment fee or whether other required charges apply.

5. What happens if I do not receive an ADHD diagnosis?

A reputable provider should be clear that assessment does not guarantee diagnosis.

6. What happens if more information is needed?

Ask how the provider manages cases where additional information is required and whether this could involve another charge.

7. Does the service include treatment?

If medication or ongoing treatment is important to you, establish whether the provider offers this and what the separate costs may be.

Choosing an ADHD assessment based on value, not simply price

Private adult ADHD assessment prices vary substantially across the UK, so it is reasonable to compare providers before making a decision.

However, the most useful comparison is not simply:

“Which assessment costs the least?”

A better question is:

“What clinical assessment am I receiving for this fee, who is providing it, and are all of the costs clear before I book?”

A transparent service should make it easy to understand what is included, what is not included, who will conduct your assessment and what you can expect regardless of the diagnostic outcome.
