Zainab Alebiosu
Clinical Pharmacist Independent Prescriber | Adult ADHD Specialist
One of the things I value most about ADHD assessment is having the time to really listen. People often arrive having spent years wondering why certain parts of life seem harder than they should, or having become very skilled at compensating for difficulties that others may never have noticed. My role is to help make sense of that story with them.
I’m a GPhC-registered Clinical Pharmacist Independent Prescriber and Adult ADHD Specialist, with specialist training in adult ADHD through the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN). I’m also undertaking a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychiatry, which reflects my wider interest in mental health, psychiatric conditions and neurodevelopmental care.
My clinical experience covers the wider adult ADHD pathway, from comprehensive diagnostic assessment through to medication initiation and titration, treatment reviews and shared care. That experience has taught me that ADHD rarely makes sense when symptoms are considered in isolation. During an assessment, I’m interested in the whole picture — childhood, education, work, relationships, physical and mental health, and the strategies someone may have developed over the years to manage or conceal their difficulties.
The DIVA-5 and other structured clinical information give an assessment its clinical framework, but I don't want the conversation itself to feel like a questionnaire. I prefer a warm, curious and collaborative approach where there is room to explore examples, make connections and understand what a person's experiences have actually meant in everyday life.
Whatever the eventual diagnostic outcome, I want someone to come away from their assessment feeling that they have been listened to properly and that they understand themselves a little better than they did when we began.
